Re: Pacific Rim
Why not.
His adventures, culminating with the battle where he save Mako ; and then later episodes become centered around another character as Idris Elba's character get pulled on the background like Mac Gyver in the later seasons of SG-1 ?

Re: Pacific Rim
The best thing : with all those Jaegers and Kaiju, such a series would have an excellent potential to sell lots of toys

Re: Pacific Rim
there's plenty to expand on
especially since we know he spent some time trying to hide his medical problems from the bosses, plus the stuff with Mako (hey, every cartoon needs an annoying little kid to tag along, right?)
Anyway, I figure that most of the episodes would actually be about stuff happening back at the base, with a Kaiju ever episode or two.

Re: Pacific Rim
Plenty of stories to be told about how the world is getting thrown upside down by the ongoing Kaiju-Apocalypse.

Re: Pacific Rim
you can even throw in a younger animated Ron Perlman as it has been hinted what's-his-name and golden shoes knew each other from past interactions.

Re: Pacific Rim
I though he was playing himself?
Something Pentecoste I think?
Blarg I can't remember anyone's names from this film, except Mako, and that was only because of the discussions about her lack of agency over at testingstan

Re: Pacific Rim
Mako, Raleigh, and that's all.
Yeah, Pentecost I think. I knew it was a Christian holiday, but I didn't remember which.
Also, what's all that fuss around Idris Elba ? What's so special about the guy ?

Re: Pacific Rim
he's just so good
I thought his performance here was kind of meh, but it was still the best in the film
He plays one of the best chracters in the Wire (and plays him perfectly), and in Luther he plays a conflicted policeman really well
he's just a very good actor, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be the next Doctor (because fuck damn we need a slightly more serious one now)

Re: Pacific Rim
How is the ending any more stupid than any other part of a giant robot movie? The wall was probably the silliest part of the film, but even that added some flavor. Pacific Rim is pretty much a Kaiju movie in every sense, including Del Toro apparently wanting every seen to feel a bit as if there was a man in a rubber monster suit.
Once you see the Russians, you'll either be sold or you might as well walk out.

It was among the first thing they tried.
Did you see the movie, Flagg ?

Not a magic nuke, just a normal nuke. What's important is how it was delivered.

Re: Pacific Rim
well it was sort of a magic nuke, given that
but in the film the necessary circumstances for it to work are explained perfectly clearly. As in, the scientist characters say it on-screen.
- Spoiler:
- nuclear reactors can't be rigged to explode that easily AFAIK

Re: Pacific Rim
Flagg, I don't get where you think the nuke is a cop out. Only someone who was catatonic could have missed the big, repetetive "These are the win conditions" conversations about how to get the nuke to WORK THIS TIME. It was a much better explanation than the virus from Independence day.
Seriously, there are lots of silly things in the movie, and the nuke thing isn't even among the top ten.

Re: Pacific Rim
Not defending P-Rim or anything, but it'd do a favor to the conversation on your side if you had actually seen the movie. Because otherwise much of the arguments you'll make will be based on pre-conceptions and hearsay, instead of, you know, the real thing.

Re: Pacific Rim
Off course it sounds stupid. It's movie about goddamn giant robots fighting freaking giant monsters from another universe.
It would really be surprising if it didn't sound stupid.
